What is Single Sing-On (SSO)?

Single sign-on (SSO) is a session and user authentication service that allows a user to use one set of login credentials to access multiple applications.

It allows to bypass the login system of a particular application and always use the same login. This represents advantages for both IT managers and end-users.

Here's an example:

Whenever you join a company you are assigned with an email account for that organization and you define your own password.

Then, during your job you may need to sign up to other services, software or application and what you usually do is use your organization email and define a password for that particular situation. You may try to use the same password and it could work for a while, but on the other hand, the password rules defined may be different and you are forced to define a different password.

As time goes by, your organization or that service may require you to renew your password for security reasons and after a while you end up with a lot of different passwords to remember.

With the single sign-on (SSO) you can use your organization login (google, outlook, etc) to access ViGIE3, avoiding the need to remember different sets of passwords and change them multiple times.

With SSO when you're logging into ViGIE3 you'll be asked to enter your company login and that's it! If you have your account saved on your computer/phone this validation is automatic.

Also, from the IT manager point of view, it allows you to manage your users' accounts directly from you IT system. You can manage:

  • Account status
  • Password rules
  • Password renewals
  • Account accesses.

In summary, SSO makes your ViGIE3 experience faster, easier and more secure.
